Driving instructors and road safety experts will be on hand to give learner drivers and foreign-language motorists practical tips to help pass the practical and theory test, as well as on pass plus and other DSA information. The event at the Driving Standards Agency’s Wood Green Test Centre will introduce novice motorists to the driving test process and offer advice on gaining Pass Plus, an advanced driving qualification which can help reduce their insurance. Examiners at the centre are welcoming all motorists, from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, to the open day in Lordship Lane.

At the event will be Approved Driving Instructor Gunay Veli, who was runner up at the ADI Industry Achievement Awards 2007. Mr Veli will be able to talk to Turkish speakers, in particular, about progressing from a provisional licence to a fully qualified licence.  Also on hand will be a Road Safety Officer from Transport for London, who can advise drivers how to reduce their vehicle insurance by taking the six-module Pass Plus course.

Chris Lines, Head of London Road Safety Unit, Transport for London said:

“Educating the youngest and most inexperienced drivers is a vital part of making our roads safer. The vast majority of deaths and injuries on our roads are avoidable, and we can help reduce them by improving driving standards.

“Pass Plus gives drivers the skills and experience to tackle a variety of situations. “As young Londoners represent eight per cent of the Capital’s drivers but are involved in 18 per cent of the collisions, TfL offers to subsidise some of the cost of taking Pass Plus for new drivers aged between 17 and 25.“

Other agencies at the day include RoadPeace, The Association of Driving Instructors and Road Safety Officers in Haringey and road safety experts from Haringey Council. Ray Colesby, Deputy Operational Delivery Manager for the area, said:  ‘We hope that learner drivers will come along with their family, friends and driving instructors to talk with local driving examiners, who will dispel a few myths about the test and the examiners themselves. We hope that this will make prospective candidates feel more at ease when they eventually return for their driving test with us.”

Approved Driving Instructors in the Wood Green area are also advised to attend and discuss ‘check tests’ with registered driving examiners. These tests provide training to ADIs on the latest DSA procedures. Members of the public are invited to attend the event at Wood Green driving test centre, The Gatehouse, Woodhall House, Lordship Lane, Wood Green, N22 5JW on Sunday June 3. The event will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. There will be an opportunity to look around the centre and talk to staff. Refreshments will be provided.
