Enfield Mayor Dogan Delman and Cllr Terry Neville, cabinet lead for the environment officially opened a new sports facility housing a boxing arena and keep fit training area in Montagu Park Changing Rooms. At the ceremony, which took place at 19.00 on Tuesday, 29 May 2007, Mayor Delman said: This is a wonderful community resource that is already paying dividends for the community. I welcome wholeheartedly any opportunity that helps engage young people in the community and helps them get fit in the process.“ The project is the result of joint working between the Council’s Parks service in partnership with the local community, Edmonton Eagles Amateur Boxing Club and John Laing Training. As well as the completed boxing ring and fitness training area, there are plans to create a separate meeting area for the Friends Group, the local community group, as well as a room for use as a police surgery/ward surgery and an environmental park on the Annex with dipping ponds, sculpted grassed areas and walks for local residents in 2009/10. |
