London-based International Music and Dance Group (IMDG) held an end of year celebratory event for students and parents at Robin Redmond Community Centre in Hackney. Beginning on May 26, students had a chance to demonstrate skills they have learned at the Centre throughout the year. In the event, which was attended by parents and Centre staff, there were folk dancing, theatre performance and ballet. Mehmet Karakus, the coordinatr of the International Dance and Music Centre said that following a successful year, “we (IMDG) wanted to get together with our students and parents to celebrate our success. Mr Karakus also announced plans for a fourth International Dance and Music festival which will be held on the June 10, 3pm at Hackney Ocean Hall. The event will consist of a dance competition involving some 20 different groups from Turkish, Kurdish and Turkish community organisations. In the event, there will also be a dance show by an African and Azerbaijani dance group. Sitting on the board of juries will be famous singer Oguz Aksac from Turkey, Docent Dr Turant Sayar, and Jake Ferguson from Hackney Community Voluntary Services. |
