Epitomised by that well-known crooner, Midge Ur, in that song, Vienna is a wonderful place worth paying a visit. In fact, a very close friend of mine, Desmond, recently dropped by Vienna on a business trip and can’t stop talking about it. Vienna is made up of 23 districts and Desmond described it quite accurately as being set out like a spiral with each district leading off the other. He stayed in the 2nd district, Stadt, which is just outside of the main part of Vienna but a good base to get around from. Like most cities, Vienna has a river that runs along its side known as the Danube and plenty of museums and history to visit. One place to visit is the area of Schonbrunn where you’ll find the Café Restaurant Residenz. Sit back in luxurious surroundings and enjoy a strudel show as well as checking out the Schonbrunn museum and zoo. Viennese people are extremely pleasant and have been known for their politeness and grumpiness all at the same time. Desmond did find them a slight stickler for rules, such as waiting for the green before crossing the road even if there wasn’t a single scrap of traffic anywhere!
